For The Love of Food
Welcome to Friday’s For The Love of Food, Summer Tomato’s weekly link roundup.
This week wheat is let off the hook, you’re still not eating enough egg yolks, and happiness slows aging.
Want to see all my favorite links? (There’s lots more). Be sure to follow me on on Delicious. I also share links on Twitter @summertomato, Google+ and the Summer Tomato Facebook page. I’m very active on all these sites and would love to connect with you. (And yes, I took that pepper heart pic myself).
Links of the week
- Is wheat bad for you? Not for most people. <<While I’m not the biggest fan of refined grains, wheat has definitely been given the Salem Witch Trial treatment the past couple of years. Scientists are working to set the record straight. (Food Politics)
- When Doctors Make You Feel Guilty <<One of the most important skills a foodist can develop is understanding the difference between doing something bad and actually being bad. You aren’t bad, and we all mess up sometimes. The question is what are you going to do to fix it? (The Atlantic)
- Michael Pollan explains what’s wrong with the paleo diet <<Though there isn’t much wrong with paleo in my opinion, it never hurts to be a little more realistic. (Grist)
- People Who Enjoy Life Maintain Better Physical Function as They Age <<Reason #247 to never diet again. (ScienceDaily)

What I learned from this is that ya’ll need to be eating more vegetables (potassium), nuts (magnesium, vitamin E), egg yolks (choline, vitamin K), sweet potatoes and other orange foods (vitamin A) and sunshine. Life could be worse. (NutSci)
- What’s in Your Fish Oil Supplements? <<Not as much of the good stuff as you’re paying for. That’s unfortunate. (New York Times)
- Garlic Roasted Brussels Sprouts Parmesan <<It’s amazing how brussels sprouts moved from my least favorite vegetable to one of my absolute favorites. New recipes always welcome. (Spinach Tiger)
What inspired you this week?
Garlic parmesan Brussels sprouts? Yes, please! Definitely trying that one.
Darya, Thank you so much for including those Brussels Sprouts. I feel honored, as long time reader.
Thanks for the awesome recipe!!!
Hi Darya, What do you think of oat flour as a sub for refined grain flour? I’m trying to limit wheat, so I thought oat flour might be a good alternative. Thanks!
I’m not a baker, so can’t advise on how they substitute for each other. Processed food is processed food though. I recommend Gluten Free Girl as a source for wheat-free baking recipes and tips.
