I loved this podcast (just subscribed!) – a lot of what Ligaya said really resonated with me, as a fellow pasta-lover.

A technical question: when she says she has one “carby” meal a day, does that include rice? Thanks!

    • Ligaya says:

So glad to hear that our conversation spoke to you, Sarah.

In answer to your question: yes, rice counted as a carb in my book. Prior to this new healthstyle, I was eating a croissant first thing, sandwich + side salad for lunch, and pasta or rice + curry in the evenings. Now a typical day consists of yogurt + nuts/berries for breakfast, green salad + protein for lunch, and veg + protein + carb for dinner.

Hope the one-carb-a-day + exercise works for you too!

Wow. I feel like I just listened to a story about myself hahah!

I’ve always been a carb and veggie lover and I feel like even though I eat “healthy” organic foods, I am still never at the weight I want to be at. Juice cleanses and diet plans blah blah blah I’ve tried them all! I recently discovered summer tomato and it just speaks to me so much. It feels like ive always known these things that Darya talks about, but the whole diet industry has brainwashed me to believe that I need to stick to a crazy diet plan to loose weight. Cue the crash diets and binge/guilt eating!

I’m getting married in September and I’ve recently lost about 10 lbs bUT want to lose about 15 more before the wedding. I’m totally inspired by your story and feel like I can do it too!

Thank you so much for sharing!

I LOVE the podcast! This episode particularly resonated with me, as a fellow mostly-healthy eater who loves carbs. I feel so inspired. I’ve dieted for a long time and it really is hard to accept the idea that incremental changes really will pay off. Hearing other people talk about how they overcame similar mental blocks and challenges is the most helpful thing.

I also wanted to say that I’ve checked out Rise at your recommendation, and it’s wonderful so far.

Thank you, and keep up the good work!

Such a great listen and truly inspiring!

I had a few more questions and hope to emulate Ligaya’s success by starting with small changes.

She mentioned In trying to tighten homecourt habits the timing of meals and alcohol. Was there anything you did in particular to solidify these habits?

Loving the podcast! I read the Foodist book last November and so many things resonated. I had been on various long terms ‘healthy’ diets (vegan, quit sugar) but I didn’t lose weight on either (I wanted to lose about 8 or 9 kg). I was eating toast every morning and a lot of noodles and pasta.

Reading the Foodist book, I tried cutting bread down to once a week (usually some good sourdough toast with scrambled eggs on Sunday) and pasta/noodles to every two weeks. I wasn’t eating a lot of processed food after cutting out sugar but was more mindful after reading the book. I lost 5kg (sorry, I’m in Australia!) over a month or two, gained some back over Christmas, then went back to it and now I’m back to 5kg down. This is really without any effort, just changing a few small things.

I wish my pasta worked for me.

is there any way to get this in print form? Listening to a podcast is not working for me. thanks, Mary
