For the Love of Food

Welcome to Friday’s For The Love of Food, Summer Tomato’s weekly link roundup.

I’m back! I’ve had a lot of catching up to do after my two weeks off the grid at a silent meditation retreat, but it’s nice to be back in the real world. I’ll write more about my retreat experience next week. In the meantime I’ll say it was amazing and illuminating and really hard.

This week happiness is overrated, low-fat diets are pointless, and red meat may or may not be worse than smoking.

Too busy to read them all? Try this awesome free speed reading app I just discovered to read at 300+ wpm. So neat!

Want to see all my favorite links? (There’s lots more). Be sure to follow me on Delicious. I also share links on Twitter @summertomato and the Summer Tomato Facebook page. I’m very active on all these sites and would love to connect with you.

I’m with you on wild salmon tasting better, but wouldn’t fake wild salmon just be dyed red to look real? Or do they usually not bother?

    • Darya Rose says:

All farmed salmon is dyed, but that turns it from beige to an opaque pink color. Still very different from the deep translucent reds and pinks of wild salmon.

Counting bites is a funny little habit I’ve had since learning how to count!

Hi Darya Rose, good recommendations in the article. I’ll be waiting the article recounting his experience in meditation.

    Hi Darya,

Welcome back! I’m very excited to hear about your retreat. Thanks for sharing the article about the meat report. I’ve heard so much about it and that is a great article. How did you stumble across this? I’ve been searching for something like this since the original report came out.

    • Darya Rose says:

I’ve been collecting food news sources for nearly 7 years, and go through thousands of them each week to narrow it down to 10. I make it look easy, right? 😉

      • Dade Dyana says:

Definitely! I can’t believe you go through thousands of articles. Keep it up – I love reading your blog and Iove these round-up posts. You always have some of the best news articles that I seem to miss during the week.

Thank you for posting the link to ‘what weight gain really means’. Great article and just what I needed to hear right now!
