Best of Summer Tomato 2014
Happy New Year!
As I’m ramping back up to start 2015, I wanted to take a moment to THANK YOU for your encouragement and support over the past 12 months.
The Summer Tomato community has grown tremendously this past year, and I’m continually astounded at the quality of the dialogue we maintain.
On most sites with a readership of this size the comments would have degenerated into cesspool of ignorance and vitriol. Yet even in the face of disagreement you guys are respectful of both me and each other, and have helped create an atmosphere of learning and cooperation.
You restore my faith in humanity. Thanks for making life awesome for all of us.
I’ve got some really exciting things planned for this year that I cannot wait to share with you. The first sneak peak will only be available to subscribers though, so be sure to sign up if you want early access.
Next week we’ll resume our regularly scheduled program of posts and links. For today, here’s a quick recap of my most popular new posts of 2014.
Best of Summer Tomato 2014
1. How I (FINALLY) Cleared My Skin of Acne <<I almost didn’t publish this, but since food was such a big factor I thought it was relevant. I’m glad you found it valuable.
2. An Uncommon Guide to Avoiding Holiday Weight Gain <<The holidays are notoriously tough, but this advice applies to any time you’re nervous about being away from your Home Court Habits for too long.
3. How to Detox Without Starving Yourself <<Probably relevant this week, yes?
4. The Worst Thing You Can Do if You’re Trying to Lose Weight <<As usual, it starts in your head.
5. Processed Food vs Real Food: Why Nutrition Science is So Confusing (and what to do about it) <<This is one of the posts I’m most proud of this year.
6. Juicing: Stupid and Pretentious or Nourishing and Enlightening? <<This one inspired some of the juice mafia to send their readers to attack me. So obviously NOT Summer Tomato readers.
7. When Is a Habit Not a Habit? <<This is an easy mistake to make, but one that can be recognized if you know what to look for.
8. How to Know When You’ve Eaten Enough <<Especially tough for former dieters.
9. Foodist Approved: DIY Quinoa Salad <<Our most popular new recipe this year, by the lovely Elyse Kopecky.
10. The No.1 Thing That Prevents You from Changing Your Habits <<It’s hard to change, but the first step is awareness.
11. Don’t Let the Ostrich Be Your Spirit Animal <<My real spirit animal is the octopus. Don’t ask.
What inspired you this year?
What are those little red and white things on top of the salad in the photo on top of this page? Thanks, Darya!
Fresh red corn from the farmers market this past summer 🙂
What cool looking corn!
What is going on here ?!? Just read the article “The 100 Most Influential People in Health and Fitness” on Greatist.com and you were nowhere to be found – that can’t be right… You def deserve a spot on the list – even Tim Ferriss is on there and at no 10 (love his books, especially the 4HB) but you are def missing from the top part of this list !!!
