For The Love of Food

Welcome to Friday’s For The Love of Food, Summer Tomato’s weekly link roundup.

This week vitamin C fights colds for real, working out less may be more and why you’re eating more than you realize.

Want to see all my favorite links? Be sure to follow me on on Delicious. I also share links on Twitter @summertomato,  Google+ and the Summer Tomato Facebook page. I’m very active on all these sites and would love to connect with you. (And yes, I took that pepper heart pic myself).

    Hi Darya,

So my wife just had a c-section last week (our first two children were not c-section). Since we can’t undo this decision (it was based on baby not being in head-down position, not mere convenience or vanity)… how can I ask this without being the freaking-out parent… should my wife start drinking kombucha tea, eat sauerkraut, should we bathe our baby in fermented cod liver oil? 😉

The article doesn’t say what the specific group of bacteria is which is lacking… so is it just completely out of our hands at this point? (On a semi-related note, have you read Brain Rules for Baby by John Medina?)

From the article its interesting that “Infants born by cesarean delivery are at increased risk of asthma, obesity and type 1 diabetes” Well I’m a real cave woman, two kids childbirth through the birthcanal, no epidural (yes pain!)… But it passed and life goes on….

Egg salad – I’ll definitely try the pickled celery! Right now i love my recipe for egg salad (flat leaf parsley and a tiny tiny pinch of curry powder is a must) but there is always room to try something new
