Japan: Fun in Tokyo & Kyoto
I spent the first two weeks of April traveling through Japan eating some pretty amazing things, and wanted to share some of the highlights with you here.
We started in Tokyo for the cherry blossom festival, then took the train to Kyoto for a few days, then back to Tokyo two nights before flying to the island of Okinawa. This post will focus on the food and events on mainland Japan, and I’ll save Okinawa for another post.
Sadly we were not allowed to take many photographs at any of the sushi restaurants we visited, since photography was prohibited at most of them. Though we did manage to sneak in a few.
Enjoy!

Your hair is a wonderful testament to nutritious eating Darya 🙂
Beautiful photos … I especially like the sound of the Sumo lunch.
Thanks! My hair has actually changed dramatically in the past 5 years. So much thicker than it used to be.
What else happened under that Cherry Tree? It looks like one I saw in a certain someones twitter feed! 🙂
Haha, yes. There’s additional evidence in the dessert tomato pic.
Niiiice! Lucky girl! Congrats!
Thank you! Funny, I thought everyone knew already. There’s more pics on my Instagram @daryapino
What is the socially acceptable way of eating those sardines on a stick?
Congrats!!!!
Honestly, it was a greasy mess.
It was probably a really silly question. I like fish but never really ate sardines. Why is it ok to eat the whole fish of a sardine but not others…do you know?
I didn’t eat the whole thing, we just picked the meat off with our teeth. I did eat small whole fish in Okinawa, that post is coming soon.
Awesome! Japan is high on my list of places to travel to soon. I followed your and Kevin’s pics on Instagram. Glad you had a great trip!
Otoro!!!! I used to live in Japan for few years and have been to beautiful places like Nikko as well. Seriously, Japanese food is sooo good!!
After eating real “authentic” Japanese sushi for a while, I was shocked at how awful the sushi they sell here in Canada tastes 🙁
Awesome photos!
Congrats and i hope Kevin’s lost phone did not ruin a lot. 😛
Very cool. Looks, umm, delicious. 🙂
Sardeeen…on a steeck. 🙂
On another note, I think you mean “Godzirra!” just to be accurate.
😉
Thanks for the post
Excellent pics, u have lived the Yamato-damashii life! Truly loved this!
Great photos! Japan food (despite the fact I have no idea what is there) always looks delicious! And, of course, Japan ismy dream as well.
Thanks for great post!
Darya, i think it’s really good that you traveled to study how people eat, their appearance, health and longevity.
America really needs to open its eyes…
