For The Love of Food
Welcome to Friday’s For The Love of Food, Summer Tomato’s weekly link roundup.
I’ve been having trouble on the site lately with external links. If you use Chrome or Safari browsers, the links below will only work if you right click and open them in a new tab. I have no idea what is wrong, but I’m working on fixing it. If you’re a computer genius and can help, I promise you riches and my first born child if you can help solve my problem.
In the news, who hates safe healthy food? Surprisingly many people. Also, supermarket produce can be up to a year old, and Mickey D’s is writing health food policy in Britain. Weeee!
I read many more wonderful articles than I post here each week. If you’d like to see more or just don’t want to wait until Friday, be sure to follow me on Twitter (@summertomato) or the Summer Tomato Facebook fan page. For a complete reading list join me on Digg. I’m very active on all these sites and would love to connect with you.

What inspired you this week?
Best weekly update yet. The Washington Post article and the two from Macheesmo were great. I’ve subscribed to quite a few food blogs over the past few months based on some of the articles you’ve shared.
Thanks for all your work.
Great to hear 🙂 I spend hours sifting through hundreds of RSS feeds and newsletters to find you guys the most interesting stories.
I’ll never vote for Sarah Palin for publc office, but Sarah Palin can’t be called stupid for bringing cookies to school. It’s not a cookie that makes a kid fat. Generations of non-fat kids ate cookies. It’s a culture of over gratification and junkie food as the only food. And, our culture at this point in history over does everything. Obesity is just one of the areas of over-gratification. It’s a cultural mind-set, lack of discipline, and an “I need to please myself all the time” attitude. STD’s are skyrocketing in teenagers. Just saying).
A toy doesn’t make kids fat either. Cracker Jax had toys in the caramel corn for years (still do) and there were generations of kids who weren’t fat. It’s a bigger problem. Bread can make you fat when eaten non-stop and full of chemicals. Should we ban bread too? It’s a bigger, deeper problem.
And, Barack Obama smokes, but he is never criticized for that. Just saying….
Totally agree with you Angela. I was criticizing Palin because she was doing it for votes, not for kids.
