Summer Tomato offers healthy eating tips for those who believe that life should be awesome.

It was created in 2009 by Darya Rose, PhD, a trained neuroscientist, San Francisco foodist and advocate of local, seasonal foods. Summer Tomato was named one of TIME’s 50 Best Websites of 2011.

Health and happiness are inextricably linked, and trying to achieve one without the other is a losing battle. Fortunately, getting healthy and losing weight don’t need to be about sacrifice and willpower. At Summer Tomato, you’ll learn to upgrade your healthstyle to make healthy living fun, easy and virtually automatic.

The word healthstyle was born out of my distaste for the word diet. No matter how clearly I try to explain that I am thin and healthy because of my diet but am not on a diet, that four letter word is always a source of confusion. To clarify this point and help change the way we think about and approach weight loss, I now use the word healthstyle.

Your healthstyle describes all habits that influence your health. When you upgrade your healthstyle you optimize these behaviors to look and feel your best without sacrificing your personal style and flavor.

The key is building habits that help you incorporate fresh, seasonal foods into your diet, while avoiding the tasteless faux food that permeates our culture. Not only will you regain your health, but you will rediscover the pleasures of eating real, authentic food.

Advice at Summer Tomato revolves around a few simple principles:

Summer Tomato is not a diet, it is an upgrade.
