Dr. Freedhoff is an Associate Professor of Family Medicine at the University of Ottawa and the medical director of Ottawa’s Bariatric Medical Institute. Widely regarding as Canada’s most outspoken expert in obesity Dr. Freedhoff’s advocacy work has seen him testifying in front of both the House of Commons and the Senate, as a subject in the acclaimed Canadian documentary Sugar Coated, and as something of a fixture in both National and International media regarding nutrition, public policy, and obesity.     Glad to see the podcast is back! Definitely did miss the aspect of troubleshooting with someone struggling with food though as that is what I really related to and appreciated about earlier episodes.

    I was glad to see the podcast appear in my feed and really enjoyed this format! I look forward to hearing from other experts. I did enjoy the previous format as well – would it be possible for some of the episodes to involve listener questions where they outline their struggles and you and whoever you’re interviewing could help the listener in that format?

    I would like to bring up the issue of sugar sensitivity as related to alcoholism. I worked with a therapist on food issues and she said that some people, like alcoholics cannot control their sugar intake. This goes against your everything in moderation philosophy. What are your thoughts?

    Hi Darya, I’m SO HAPPY to see that the podcast is back. I missed it! I admit that when I first saw the email subject NEW PODCAST, I got really excited to hear someone get coached by you or a success story, and I was initially disappointed that we would be hearing from an expert instead. But once I got into it, I very much enjoyed hearing Dr. Freedhoff’s philosophy; it was refreshing to hear Foodist-esque wisdom coming from the perspective and experience of an MD. I know I will grow to enjoy future interviews with other experts. That said, please know that I learned from each and every trouble-shooting session you did with aspiring Foodists and from each and every success story. (I have listened to the whole library of Foodist podcasts multiple times!) I don’t think I’m alone in my sentiment that it’s a format that I could never get sick of and is rare to find from anyone else in the podcast world. I hope you’ll consider including success stories and/or coaching in the future!

    This was a great conversation, I Iove the ideas in here, specifically about finding a “best weight” and recognizing that eating is so much more than fuel.

    However, I was saddened to hear you won’t be recording coaching sessions for podcasts any more. I really appreciated getting to witness how you tackle a person’s unique problem.

    Like so much in life, we can only learn so much from content in idea form (what is found in books, articles, interviews, etc.). It is much more rich to witness your philosophy come to live through direction action with clients. More applicable, more interesting, and not something many people are publishing these days.

    Either way, thanks for the work you do!

    So happy to see the podcast back and congratulations! I enjoyed the interview, but the live coaching sessions and success stories were so valuable. Any expert you reference I always go back and read their material anyway, and so an interview format feels very much like a lot of things already out there – and the coaching sessions were so unique and transformative. While there was a break I also went and kept relistening to old ones and found them helpful every time. There’s just not much else out there like it. Maybe there will be room to sprinkle some in here and there. Either way, your work was very helpful and will continue to enjoy the archives!
