Welcome to Friday’s For The Love of Food, Summer Tomato’s weekly link roundup.

This research on copper is scaring me. Darya, do you drink tap water?

I’m excited to see what more you have to suggest in terms of natural skin and body care. Just read Liz Wolfe’s guide to paleo body care- and I think I agree with you on paleo in general, but as far as uber simple and uber whole ingredient skincare recipes/agendas….. it was awesome!

I’m still figuring all this stuff out, but to give you an idea where I’m at: for my face I use Rhonda Allison cleansers and exfoliators, IS Clinical moisturizers, and (mostly) Jane Iredale makeup, supplemented with Chanel for pigments (eyes, lips). I use Dr. Bronner’s body soap and Gold Bond body moisturizer. Stuff gets expensive really quickly.

Hi, Darya! I appreciate you sharing your path to learning more about safer and healthier products for skin care. Do you like any specific facial moisturizers that provide some sun protection?

      • Darya Rose says:

That’s the one thing I haven’t found. Can’t stand the normal SPF greasy stuff. Currently I’m using Rhonda Allison aloe matte facial moisturizer. It has natural sun protection but no added SPF. I combat the sun with the SPF 20 in my Jane Iredale makeup.

    Hey, Darya!

I’m revisiting the bath and body products I use, especially since my skin has been especially dry (and sometimes itchy) in this wintery weather. Recently, I’ve been trying to learn more about chemicals that release formaldehyde. One chemical, for example, is diazolidinyl urea, which is found in products such as Gold Bond body lotion. One report I found in a peer-reviewed journal is this, and it has some mixed results: http://ijt.sagepub.com/content/9/2/229.abstract

Any thoughts on what chemicals you try to avoid in bath/body/beauty products?

The report you site doesn’t seem very alarming to me. Almost everything is toxic at a high enough dose, and there will always be a group of people who is more sensitive. I’m very picky about what I put on my face (I only use Rhonda Allison, iS Clinical and Jane Iredale products). But I use Gold Bond on my body too.
