Thank you for mentioning my shrimp and beet tops. I'm in the middle of a purple posting craze...You will love it.

The Vitamin D article. Excellent. I crave the outdoors and I go out every single day, sometimes specifically in mind to get Vitamin D.

Still loving your blog....I read methodically...

I believe so...I make a concerted effort to eat fresh fruits (and veggies) each day, and my skin used to be so much more sensitive than it is now. The sun is very intense up here, especially in the summer.

I'm going down south to OC on Thursday for a beach house vacation...I suppose I could test the latitude theory. ;)

LOVE the article by Michael Pollan. He is so entertaining while making some scary points...I find it crazy to think that a lot of people spend more time watching "cooking" shows than actually cooking. Its very sad to me that the next generation may not cook at all. I truly hope to impart the value of home cooked meals to my children the way his mom did to him (love how he described watching him mom in the kitchen) and the way my mom and grandmothers did to me. When I was 6 my grandma taught me to make pie crust saying, "The way to keep a man is to make a good pie." Maybe not the best thing to tell a 6 year old girl, but the pie crust lesson was invaluable; to this day I love making pies.

I am happy to say that I spent my entire weekend cooking with friends - what can be better than everyone bringing their own ingredients to make a great meal?

Cool story about the fruits! There is a difference even at the same latitude?

Really good vitamin D article...I actually got 7 out of 8 right, but only because I've been reading up on it a lot lately. You can be darn sure I was worried about vitamin D deficiency when I moved up to "sunny" Oregon. One thing I discovered this past year is that loading up on fruits (especially antioxidant rich ones) helps me from getting sunburned. I never would have believed it, but a friend told me about it and it has worked great for me....I used to burn in 30 minutes, now it takes longer than 6 hours of constant exposure.

That Marion Nestle article is definitely my favorite! Thanks!

I know someone who never eat while traveling by air. She keeps hydrated and drinks powdered barley grass before and after the flight. She also makes sure to spend some time in the sun at her destination to help reset her body clock. She says these measures all but eliminates jet lag, usually a big problem when traveling between South Africa and the USA.
