I came home with carrots, tomatillos, tomatoes, eggs, beets w/greens, oranges, Israeli cucumber, red leaf and romaine lettuce, 3 enormous Reed avocados, baby leeks, red onion, brown onion, white nectarines, yellow peaches, Eel River Melon, almonds, butternut squash, zucchini, garlic, & shallot.

I'm lucky to live in San Diego, where my local market in Little Italy continues to grow, both with shoppers and vendors! We even have a stall with fresh sea urchin, a marine pest that must be harvested off the kelp beds off our coast that happens to be mighty tasty & a rep from Sea Rocket Bistro that will grill up a beautiful whole sardine for you and serve it with olive oil and sea salt from a paper plate for $3. I <3 the farmers market!

I picked up lots of fresh local corn, fingerling potatoes and carrots...pretty basic picks, but I'm gonna start experimenting with some soup ideas.

Aww...your beautiful farmer's market photos are making me miss my Saturday stop. I had to give it up to help a friend move...at least it was for a worthy cause! :) Hoping to hit mine up sometime this week.

Which farmer's market are your photos from?

It's succulent and a fantastic addition to salad. Another thing I like to do after I've made a stir fry with vegetables and legumes is toss it with quinoa, tomatoes and purslane for a more hearty dish.

I always see purslane at the market, but I never know what to do with it. I've read that it's very nutritious. Does anybody here have any suggestions?
