I try to keep the science down to a low roar because it tends to scare people off, but it is a fascinating topic and I encourage you to explore it.

For a long life I recommend lying motionless in a dark room all day, every day, occasionally rising to walk slowly around the bed for a few minutes. It's called the Samuel Beckett longevity plan. ;o)

With all due respect to the researchers involved, this made me laugh: "Recent studies have shown that the mere act of smelling food can reduce lifespan. The mechanism for this effect is still unknown, but seems to be tied to respiration." I'm beginning to think the best way to extend my life would be to refrain from engaging in any activities that involve living.

Hi Miki,

As someone who finds confusing all the contradictory certainties that have over the years been promulgated as the optimal diet for human health and longevity, are you able to point me to the scientific evidence that has obviously influenced your choice of diet?

Unlike some who still worship at the altar of Ancel Keys, cholesterol is not part of my lexicon and yet I admit to finding difficulty in believing that a diet as high in fat as that which you now appear to favour can be synonymous with our natural aspirations to continue to enjoy the journey long beyond past expectations.

Thank you for the interesting article. It made me remember a couple of TED videos I've seen:
- One on aging and what are the mechanism of aging (and ways to impact them) - http://www.ted.com/talks/lang/eng/aubrey_de_grey_says_we_can_avoid_aging.html
- One on technology by Ray Kurzweil and how that can impact aging and longetivity - http://www.ted.com/talks/ray_kurzweil_on_how_technology_will_transform_us.html

Ray Kurzweil, apart from being a brilliant thinker, has also written a book on dieting to maximize longetivity (as this is one of his major goals in life). The book is called "The 10% Solution For a Healthy Life" - also an interesting read.
